EUROPEAN CITIES CHALLENGE 2023

We are delighted to announce, Glasgow Life will be hosting the European Cities Athletics Challenge, as part of the European Capital of Sport 2023. The event will be a signature event for the European Capital of Sport 2023, allowing the best athletes in Glasgow to participate in a competition against athletes from the four other European cities.


The event will welcome athletes from Berlin, Brussels, Helsinki and Cardiff to participate in an Under 18 athletics challenge match. There will be one athlete from each city involved in a track and field events, with points allocated based on placings in the event. The inaugural event took place in 2022, where the athletes from Glasgow emerged with the winner medals.

Who? 

Glasgow athletes* in the World Under 18 category

(athletes must be under 18 on the 31st December 2023 and born after 1st January 2006 to be eligible)

Eligibility:

To be eligible to represent Glasgow, the athletes must meet one of the following criteria:

- Live in Glasgow City

- Attend full time education in a Glasgow school or further education

- Be a member of a Glasgow or Glasgow Athletics Association club

Events:

- 60m 

- 60m hurdles 

- 400m (men only)

- 800m (female only)

- 3000m 

- long jump 

- high jump

- shot put

- mixed medley relay (800m M, 400m F, 200m M, 200m F)

Spectators:
Spectators are welcome to attend the event, and there will be no entry fee to do so.


Access to the competition area (including the warm up area) will be for athletes, officials and coaches/team
staff only. Parents, spectators and non-competing athletes must remain in the stands at all times.
